Here we are, already over half way through a busy
August & fortunately, after some very mixed weather, the sun is shining
on us!
We have had a great bunch of guests this year, including this week, our
first French families (with American mothers). It's so impressive to
hear a toddler swapping effortlessly from French to English - if only it
was so easy for us!
This area has so many sites to see and places to visit, that after 4
years we still have quite a list to go to ourselves, so it is always
interesting to hear what our guests have been up to. The gardens at
Marqueyssac are always popular with families and couples alike: shady in
the heat; fantastic views; interesting topiary; peak season activities
for children and now the 'Via Ferrata' . Jon and two friends went to
sample this delight: wearing a harness and clipped on to wires they
negotiated the 'falaise' (cliffs) below the elevated gardens to get
stunning views over the Dordogne - not to mention an adrenalin rush!
We're normally to be found pottering around 'Le Jardin' doing those
necessary everyday tasks - pool cleaning, gardening, giving out
directions etc. but today, thanks to guests whose car had to be towed
away for repair, we are having an afternoon out in Monpazier and
dropping them at the garage at the same time! Monpazier is one of our
favourite spots - probably the finest and most complete of all the
bastide towns, with a lovely central square surrounded by shady arcades
(the perfect place for a cool drink). |
