Le Jardin des Amis, a former farm in the Dordogne, South West France has been
carefully renovated and provides 'character holiday accommodation' in 5
self-catering gites. Each has its own individual terrace area and all
benefit from our large swimming pool with poolside bar offering drinks and
barbecue facilities. The owners - Jon and Sue Long - live on site and look forward to welcoming you and ensuring a stress free holiday. We are happy to give advice on places to visit or make bookings for local restaurants/caves/canoes etc. We are ideally situated in a valley between the Dordogne and Vezere rivers and only a short walk (less than 400 metres) from the centre of the pretty, medieval village of Meyrals. Village facilities include a boulangerie, charcuterie, post office, 2 restaurants/bar, a brocante, several galleries/ateliers and a small weekly, summer market. The surrounding area has a wealth of activities to suit everybody. Less the six kilometres away is Les Eyzies-de-Tayac and the Vezere river valley (now a UNESCO world heritage site due to the concentration of prehistoric caves including the world famous Font de Gaume). The National Museum of Prehistory can also be found in les Eyzies. Along the Dordogne river, the bastide towns (such as Domme) with their marvellous medieval buildings and the chateaux impossibly perched on the top of craggy cliffs will keep the most ardent sightseer happy. The more sporty guests will appreciate the many activities available including canoeing, rock-climbing, walking, cycling, ballooning and cave exploration to name but a few. There are a number of enjoyable circular walks to be followed from the cottages and we are only too happy to advise and loan maps. (Out of high season, ask us about guided walks). Visit the numerous local markets including nearby St. Cyprien or Sarlat (one of the biggest in South West France) to sample the gastronomic delights of Perigord Noir, home to the renowned foie gras, duck confit, truffles, walnuts and wines of the region. If your preference is to relax and do nothing, the peace and quiet to be found beside our pool in the warm sunshine is the place to do it. Our pool has a salt-system which means that the water is far more pleasant for swimming than in a traditional 'chlorine' pool - particularly for good for children or those with sensitive eyes or skin. Le Jardin des Amis is set on a 7 acre site and guests are welcome to wander in our wild-flower meadow and perhaps spot grazing deer; stroll through the woods or orchard and help themselves to apples or walnuts (when in season). For children (and the young at heart) there is plenty of room to run off energy or join in an informal summer sports tournament! See our facilities page for more info.
If you would like to bring your dog to share your holiday we are usually
happy to help. We can accommodate a dog in most of our cottages and advise on
procedures to follow regarding 'pet passports': please let us know when booking
that you would like to bring a dog. |
